I disagree with the frequent newsletters is better advice. I think once a month is fine. Less is okay too so long as you send something regularly (quarterly or even twice per year works too). I tend to unsubscribe from newsletters when they come weekly or more, particularly as these newsletters in my experience tend to be filled with authors talking about other author’s books (too many author swaps) and little or nothing about their own books or works in process. The occasional exception if fine, but 24 times per year is a lot! More is entirely too much IMO.… Read more »
Thanks! Yes, I’m not a fan of author swaps. I hear they work, but I prefer to recommend books I’ve read and enjoyed, not just books that exist. On the rare occasions I’ve done a swap, people inevitably think it’s a recommendation, which put me off them. I don’t tend to talk about books I can’t vouch for, except when I trust the author. I also prefer real content in newsletters, not just chatter. So this is a good reminder that many readers feel the same.
